A Weekend Away in Phillip Island

Pi Nature Park Penguins

Phillip Island is a rugged and popular destination about an hour and a half south of Melbourne. Known for its array of spectacular Australian wildlife, pristine stretches of beach, jagged stone cliffs (and for being the hometown of the Hemsworth brothers), this tiny island packs a punch.

Pack up your weekend bags and experience the best that Phillip Island has to offer!

Hike Cape Woolamai

As the highest point on Phillip Island, Cape Woolamai has some incredible views. The walk around the Cape supplies turquoise watered coves, dramatic rock formations, and more wallabies than you could ask for. Looking out towards the ocean, if you’re lucky you might spot some dolphins, seals, or even a whale.

Our favourite spot along the track has to be the iconic Pinnacles rock formations! This unique succession of granite columns, formed over thousands of years, is breath-taking and an absolute must-see on your weekend trip to Phillip Island.

Explore Phillip Island Nature Park

Strolling along the Nobbies boardwalk offers one of the most spectacular views on all of Phillip Island. This protected ecotourism area is located on the west of the island and is close to where the Penguin Parade takes place. And yes, you know what that means? If you’re lucky you’ll be able to see penguins on the headland while you walk the boardwalk.

You will find yourself looking out over the ocean and Seal Rock, where fur seal colonies can regularly be spotted. The boardwalk closely follows the coastline through a rugged but beautiful landscape passing blowholes and rookeries. Although it can be touristy, it is truly a stunning part of the island.

Beach Days

If you’ve booked a trip to Phillip Island Caravan Park, chances are that you’ll be planning on spending a lot of time at beach! Renowned for its stunning coastline, Phillip Island has some of the best beaches you’ll find in all of Victoria. Whether you’re a keen surfer or looking for the perfect spot to set up for the day with the kids, there’s the perfect piece of sand waiting for you.

If you’re after the perfect spot for the family, you can’t go past Cowes Main Beach! The only north-facing beach in Victoria, meaning the water usually remains calm and sheltered, perfect for letting the little ones get their feet wet! Its proximity to town means there’s no lack of choice for foods and drinks, and there are even public BBQ and picnic facilities.

Looking to catch your first wave or, maybe you’re already a seasoned surfer. Either way, Smith’s Beach is the perfect spot to ride the waves with its consistent, quality waves.

Visit the Famous Penguin Parade

Finish up your weekend of fun with a visit to the famous Penguin Parade! You can catch the world’s smallest penguin every night at sunset as they waddle from their daily sea adventures to their homes in the sand dunes. It’s a magical experience and a favourite for the young ones who can learn more about these penguins and the research that goes on to protect the island’s wildlife.

Make sure you book your tickets in advance here, as spots are limited due to social distancing guidelines.
