Planning on escaping the city and visiting Phillip Island over the school holidays? Here are some of the best restaurants and cafes to eat on the island.

Cheeky Goose Café

Tucked away from the main road in Cowes, Cheeky Goose Café is- open from 9am serving hearty breakfasts all the way to 5pm – perfect for those who love a late start on holiday! They also have an extensive menu for lunch and dinner at very reasonable prices. Be sure to try the Island Southern Fried Buttermilk Chicken – possibly Victoria’s best-fried chicken, a definite crowd pleaser!

Do look out for their food truck popping around the Cowes foreshore if you’re spending a day at the beach too.

Rusty Water Restaurant & Bar

With local beers for tasting and live acoustic music every Friday night, Rusty Water is a great place to start your weekend. For $15 you get a beer tasting paddle, which includes some local favourites: Pure Pilsner, Koala Pale Ale, Shipwreck IPA and Churchill ESB from Phillip Island Brewing Co, who specialises in creating unique small-batch handcrafted beers.

Come for the drinks and stay for the food. They source from local produce and ingredients with a menu that changes every season.

Start the meal off with some Gippsland Artisan Organic Infused Artisan Bread, infused with their very own Koala Pale Ale – and even bring some home with you!

Open from 4.30pm on Tuesday, and 11.30am to late from Wednesday to Sunday.

Woolamai Pizza

Looking for a quick bite – around the corner from our caravan park? You can’t go wrong with Woolamai Pizza in Cape Woolamai. Go for the traditional toppings or spoil yourself with a gourmet pizza, with some excellent combinations such as the Honey Chilli Prawn pizza, or the Feta Chicken with spinach pizza. With plenty of toppings on a crispy thin base, this is the definition of a good pizza! Gluten-free pizzas are also available, and they are open 7 days a week from 5pm to 9pm.

The Cape Kitchen

For those looking for somewhere truly special, we highly recommend The Cape Kitchen in Newhaven who was recently featured in the Top 50 restaurants in Australia by OpenTable. With sweeping sea views overlooking Cape Woolamai through to Pyramid Rock along the Bass Strait, bookings are highly recommended, especially during school holidays. They are open from Friday to Monday from 8.30am, and do High Tea and Pop Up dinners monthly.

Be sure to leave room for dessert, as they have a wide selection of desserts using local produce and ingredients – the best the region has to offer.
